The Metropolitan Tabernacle Pulpit

The Metropolitan Tabernacle Pulpit, Volume 1, collects fifty-three sermons preached by Charles Haddon Spurgeon during the year 1855, the opening year of his ministry at the New Park Street Chapel in London. Spurgeon was only twenty years old when he delivered these addresses, yet they display the theological depth, rhetorical power, and pastoral warmth that would define his career as the most widely read preacher of the Victorian era.

This Crownwell Press edition presents the sermons in a new critical setting with updated typography, standardized spelling, and corrected punctuation drawn from a comparison of the earliest printed editions. The text preserves Spurgeon's original language and structure without abridgment. Running heads, a detailed table of contents, and a Scripture index have been added to aid study and reference.

The Metropolitan Tabernacle Pulpit eventually grew to sixty-three volumes published between 1855 and 1917, comprising over 3,500 individual sermons. It remains the largest body of published sermons by a single preacher in the English language.
